Congress must watch out in Kerala

Among those who were consistently opposed to women entry in Sabarimala were the Kerala unit of the Congress. Even BJP/RSS leaders at the state and central level were effusive in their support for women entry into Sabarimala. And yet when the Supreme Court judgment came and protests began it was Congress which found itself the odd one out.

Part of the reason for Congress’s ignominy was its chief spokesperson Randeep Surejwala tweeting his welcoming of the judgment without consulting the state unit. Thus hemmed in by AICC, the state PCC began speaking in many voices on the judgment. The BJP, in contrast, quickly reversed its position and announced support for the massive protests across the state.

The Congress also joined in. But as the movement turned more strident and........
