Film review: Joseph – in death, a retired cop picks up the pieces of his life

Every once in a while comes a really good Malayalam film without big names associated with it, either in front of the camera or behind it. Such films would rarely release in Delhi because superstars are still able to draw out more audiences to theatres. In earlier years, word of mouth would rarely travel this far north but film review sites like Sify were a big help. But now with social media and WhatsApp more diaspora are finding out about the small films in time to catch them in Delhi theatres before they disappear after a usual run of one week. This Saturday I dropped in for “Joseph” directed by M Padmakumar and starring Joju George, who has been seen mostly in supporting and villain roles.

Joseph recounts events in the life of a retired police constable and has one of the most memorable opening sequences I have seen in a Malayalam........
