In Sabarimala a test of values and nerves

After days of peaceful protests over the Supreme Court judgment allowing women of all ages entry into Sabarimala comes the violence at Nilakkal, a key halting point on the pilgrimage. A number of women journalists were assaulted, threatened or turned back while they were doing their work. A few courageous women who sought to undertake the pilgrimage were also threatened and sent back.

Visuals of the thuggish protesters are a far cry from the image of the Sabarimala devotee or pilgrim as a person who comes in peace, manifesting inner calm and strengthened in body and mind through 41 days of sacrificing many habits. In........
