A number of development works are in progress in Srinagar city. Some of the works are going on under Srinagar Smart City Project and many other works being carried out by several government departments. The local residents have been alleging unnecessary delay in the completion of some of the projects.

The delay is causing lot of inconvenience to the people. The roads and footpaths are dug-up at a number of places making the movement of vehicular traffic and pedestrians difficult. The problems get further aggravated during rainy days as the roads get water-logged. Even some of the roads leading to hospitals are not in a good shape.

The dug-up or under re-construction roads cause traffic jamming. The patients needing emergency treatment do not reach hospitals in time because of the traffic related mess on such roads. Any delay in some cases proves fatal. The people say that they are not against any kind of development in the city since the development is aimed at the welfare of the residents.

But there is a need to complete the work in time. The unnecessary delay adds to the problems. Traffic jamming in such areas becomes a routine. The commuters do not reach to their destinations in time. The business of the shopkeepers also gets affected.

The vehicles suffer damage while moving through these dilapidated roads. At some places temporary alternative road stretches have been made in view of the work going on the main roads. These alternative temporary roads or diversions should be also qualitatively better. Commuters allege that driving on these temporary stretches is risky.

The engineers, associated with these works, must make these temporary road stretches or diversions traffic worthy. Travel should be made smooth on such road. Traffic police have to be deployed at such places to properly regulate the traffic. The roads leading to hospitals need to be kept in good shape for smooth traffic movement, especially.

Those driving must ensure that ambulances or other private vehicles, carrying emergency patients, are given way to reach hospitals without any difficulty.

The Srinagar Smart City Project works were completed in time in some other parts of the city, while there were reports of delay in some areas. The ongoing works too must be completed at the earliest without any further delay.
