Incidents of dog attacks have now become too common in India with new cases coming up often in the news. The latest case concerns a young girl who was attacked by a pet dog inside the lift of a residential society in Noida. This comes at the back of another major case some days ago from Chennai, where a five-year-old girl sustained serious injuries after being attacked by two pet Rottweiler dogs at a park in Chennai.

These are just two recent cases but across the country such events are becoming a major cause for concern. Rules exist regarding such incidents, both for the protection of dogs and those who bite them.

The scourge of dog attacks has become a common problem in India today which is extremely dangerous. Both stray dogs and pet ones are attacking citizens and there seems to be no end to this.

Many reasons exist for this. From lack of proper mechanism for animal healthcare and control to unsupervised breeding and mismanagement, dog and human clashes have become routine.

A major problem is the large number of stray dogs that are found in India. The extremely large number, which is often unvaccinated and unruly, have been a tough challenge for authorities. Laxity of authorities and animal welfare organisations coupled with intrinsic risks associated with strays are also a major problem that has arisen recently.
