Noida: Noida Police on Wednesday a gang duping people on the pretext of providing them jobs abroad and arrested 11 people including a woman in this connection. The gang had been operating for the past four years from different parts of the country and duping unemployed people of lakhs of Rupees by luring them with lucrative job offers abroad.

The accused have been identified as Sameer Shah, Nand Kishor, Mushtaq Khan, Ali Akhtar, Eijaz Ahmad, Indrajit Das, Nazim, Eijaz, Kishor Prasad, and a woman named Nazrana

Sameer Shah, the kingpin, had carried out these frauds and kept changing his location continuously for the past four years to remain untraced and target vulnerable people to trick them out of money, police said.

Upon receiving information about a gang defrauding people in Noida, the police began monitoring the gang’s activities and found that several people had been cheated as part of an elaborate scam which involved the victims being given fake visas and employment documents for various countries, Noida DCP Vidya Sagar Mishra said.

Teams were formed and an investigation revealed that the gang was running operations in the name of a fraudulent consultancy firm located in Sector 126 of Noida. On Wednesday, a team of the Police Commissionerate and Sector 126 Police Station carried out raids and arrested 11 people in this connection, he added.

Elaborating on the modus operandi, the DCP said gang members targeted unemployed people through social media and took advantage of their vulnerability to lure them with handsome paying jobs abroad. The accused held discussions with the victims and promised them employment opportunities in the country of their choice but never intended to do so.

They charged Rs 1-3 lakh from the victims for this purpose and created several fake visas and documents from various ministries which have now been seized. The accused would then pretend to complete all formalities including flight tickets and ask the victims to come to the airport where someone from the team would meet, Mishra said.

The victims would realise they have been cheated when nobody from the consultancy would be at the airport and the phone numbers they were provided with would be unreachable, he added.

Police have seized 140 passports, and 700 documents including fake recruitment letters, visas and a fake Indian government for their firm. The cops are examining the gang’s bank accounts to freeze their funds and efforts are on to ascertain the identities of other persons linked to the gang.
