Reita Faria, born in Mumbai in 1943, made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win the Miss World beauty pageant in 1966. During the competition, she also received accolades for her performance in both swimsuit and eveningwear categories, captivating audiences in a saree.

After a gap of 28 years, India won the contest again as Aishwarya Rai was crowned Miss World in 1994. Soon after her big achievement, Aishwarya forayed into films, and made her debut with Mani Ratnam's 1997 Tamil film Iruvar.

Hyderabad's Diana Hayden was crowned Miss World in 1997, when she was 23. Notably, she remains the sole Miss World titleholder to also hold three additional titles – Miss World Asia and Oceania, Miss Photogenic, and Spectacular Swimwear, all achieved in the same pageant.

Yukta Mookhey, born in Bengaluru, secured the Miss World crown for India in 1999. Apart from her studies in Zoology and computer sciences, Mookhey also pursued Hindustani classical music for three years.
