Gurugram: In the coming future, if you are carrying 12 bottles of different liquor brands then it will not be a violation of the policy. It is expected that this change in rules will be brought into the new excise policy of 2024-25. As per the proposed change, where earlier a person could carry only four bottles, now their number is twelve. However, it should be noted that as of now the rule is that all these bottles should be of the same brand. If this is not the case then it is a violation of the excise policy. If anyone is caught doing this, then along with the liquor being confiscated, a case can also be registered under the Excise Act.

Furthermore it should be noted that over the past month, the police have identified approximately 155 cases of Excise Act violations throughout the district. These cases highlight instances where individuals have failed to comply with the regulations outlined in the Haryana Excise Policy of 2023-24, which permits individuals to carry twelve bottles, provided they are of the same brand. Additionally, the policy allows for the possession of 12 Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), 6 Imported Foreign Liquor (IFL), and 6 or 12 units of Country Liquor (CL), such as Desi Beers, for personal consumption, granted the possession is within the limits of a license (L-50) worth ten thousand rupees for a lifetime.

However, this switcheroo needs the thumbs-up from the Election Commission before it becomes official. If everything goes according to plan, residents can start enjoying this change from June 12 onward. In Gurugram, the city has got two zones under the excise department, with 79 vendors in the East and 166 in the West and each of these vendors might soon be allowed to run two wine shops, doubling their profit margins through liquor sale.
