New Delhi: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has attacked Congress party over its claims on low occupancy of Vande Bharat express trains in the country.

Earlier on Wednesday, Kerala Congress claimed that the fares of Vande Bharat trains on different routes was high and that most of these trains are running empty.
Hitting back at the Congress, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw wrote on X, “It’s time to prick the bubble of Congress lies. Occupancy of Vande Bharat trains on 7th May is 98%. Occupancy in FY 2024-25 (till 7th May) is 103%. Does Congress want Vande Bharat to stop?”

The Kerala unit of the Congress had claimed that 50 per cent of the Vande Bharat trains are either running with low occupancy or completely empty. The Congress apparently cited IRCTC booking data to make the claim.
Laying of tracks, new lines and gauge conversion
Earlier, the Railways Ministry responded to an RTI application and said the railways have laid an average 7.41 km of tracks including new lines, gauge conversion of existing lines in the past ten years.
According to Railways Ministry, it laid a total of 27057.7 kms of railway tracks in 10 years between 2014-2024 covering construction of new lines, doubling and tripling of existing lines as well as gauge conversion from meter gauge to broad gauge.
