Nearly seven years after the launch of its third generation, the Maruti Dzire is poised for a significant makeover. Scheduled to follow the debut of the all-new Swift next month, the Dzire’s upcoming generation update is one of the most anticipated in the compact sedan category. Tailored specifically for the Indian market, the new Dzire is designed to meet the unique demands and preferences of Indian consumers, particularly benefiting from the sub-4m category’s small car tax advantages.

While the new-gen Swift will catch the public’s eye with its global debut in Tokyo, the Dzire is set to carve out its niche with distinct styling tailored for Indian tastes. Expected to sport a fresh rear end design, unique bumpers, and distinct alloy wheels, the Dzire aims to stand out from its hatchback counterpart, the Swift. Sources suggest that even the headlamps could see a design overhaul, ensuring that each new generation of the Swift and Dzire distinctly separates from the previous iterations.

Building on the foundation set by the Swift, the new Dzire is expected to elevate the experience with additional features. Anticipated enhancements include a segment-first single-pane sunroof and possibly a 360-degree camera, aiming to offer more than its competitors and even its hatchback sibling. Spy shots and insider tips have given us glimpses of what to expect, signaling a significant step up in the Dzire’s appeal and functionality.

Under the hood, the Dzire will share its core with the new Swift. The current K Series 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine will make way for the more modern Z Series 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine. This new engine is designed with an emphasis on reducing emissions and increasing efficiency, all while boosting performance to meet the rigorous demands of Indian driving conditions. Maruti Suzuki plans to continue offering the 5-speed manual and AMT gearboxes, with a factory-fitted CNG kit expected to join the lineup later.

The launch of the new Dzire is strategically planned for the second half of 2024, a few months following the Swift’s introduction. Timed around the festive season, Maruti Suzuki aims to maximize the new Dzire’s market impact. Competing against the likes of Hyundai Aura and Tata Tigor, the updated Dzire is likely to command a premium, justified by its new features and improved specifications.
