New Delhi: Pace bowling sensation Mayank Yadav suffered a side strain and left the field after bowling just one over in the 21st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

The 21-year-old came to bowl in the fourth over for his side LSG when Gujarat Titans were chasing a target of 164. He bowled two 140 deliveries in the over before walking off the field with the LSG physio. He conceded 13 runs in that over. His recurring injury prevented him from participating in matches for Delhi during the Ranji Trophy season.

Mayank, who had earlier struggled with ankle and hamstring niggles in his career has impressed fans and cricket experts with his ability to cross the 150 kmph mark consistently on his IPL debut match against Punjab Kings.

In his second IPL match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the right-arm fast bowler took three wickets and gave away just 14 runs, he also bowled a 156.7 kmph delivery in this IPL which is the fastest of this season. He broke his own record of 155.8 kmph which he bowled against Punjab Kings. He took six wickets in the two matches he played in this season.

Former West Indian pacer Ian Bishop highlighted the importance of protecting Mayank and also said that his body should get stronger.

“He should be treated and protected well as it is the early stages of his career. His body should get stronger considering he bowls at such a high pace,” he said during commentating for the match.
