New Delhi: Authorities have raised security across multiple venues for this week’s UEFA Champions League fixtures in Europe after a media outlet supporting the Islamic State (IS) group published threats against all the quarter-finals first-leg matches.

A pro-IS media channel issued multiple posters threatening to attack stadiums hosting the last eight ties on Tuesday and Wednesday.

European football’s governing body UEFA confirmed about the threats but said matches in Madrid, Paris and London would go ahead as planned.

French Minister Gerald Darmanin said the jihadist group had threatened to target all the quarter-final matches on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“The police, whom I spoke to very early this morning, have considerably reinforced the security measures,” the minister told reporters.

In Tuesday’s matches, Arsenal face Bayern Munich in London while Real Madrid host defending European champions Manchester City.

In Wednesday’s game, Atletico Madrid lock horns with German club Borussia Dortmund in the Spanish capital.

UEFA said all the matches would go ahead despite the threat.

“UEFA is aware of alleged terrorist threats made towards this week’s UEFA Champions League matches and is closely liaising with the authorities at the respective venues,” the statement said.
