Nola is used to winning. And the St. Boniface eatery has done it again, collecting the most votes at last week’s Winnipeg Nightlife & Lifestyle Awards. I haven’t been to 300 Tache Ave. yet (it’s on my list) but I did have Chef Emily Butcher on my radio show the other day. I asked her about the excitement her food is causing locally. Emily says it’s all about bringing some fun to the table, with a side of nostalgia from what she grew up eating. She recommends the Reuben Gyozas, Gunpowder Roast Carrots and Seared Scallops and Lo Bak Go which is based on a family recipe. Congratulations to Emily and everyone else at Nola! You’ve built quite a reputation after just a few years. I can’t wait to visit your restaurant and try this food that everyone is talking about.

State & Main in Winnipeg is raising money again this year for the North End Women’s Centre. For every Mother’s Day reservation fulfilled between May 4 and 12, the restaurant at 1555 Regent Avenue West will donate $10 to the NEWC. This is the third year for the fundraiser.

A new study says Coca-Cola, Pepsi and a few other drink companies are driving the globe’s plastic crisis. Coke alone accounts for 11% of branded plastic waste. Researchers analyzed data from 1,500 litter surveys in 84 countries. Volunteers examined over 1.8 million pieces of plastic.

Hellmann’s Canada is challenging us to reduce our food waste with the launch of 1352: Refreshed Sneakers, shoes made with food waste. The average Canadian household wastes $1,352 of food each year. The sneakers aren’t for sale but you can win a pair at Hellmanns.com/ca. For every entry, Hellmann’s will donate the equivalent of 10 meals to their long-standing charity partner Second Harvest.

Milan, Italy is looking at banning late night takeaway orders. The city says they’re trying to find the right balance between sociability, entertainment and the peace and health of residents. The ban would forbid the sale of food and drink shortly after midnight. If the new rule passes, it would kick in next month and last through the tourism season.

Tom Gilbey just sipped 25 glasses of wine while running the London Marathon. He was blind tasting them to try and guess their origin and vintage. Incredibly, he got seven right, four wrong and the remaining wines partially correct. Including wine stops, he finished the marathon in four hours and 41 minutes.

A DoorDasher has taken to Reddit to complain about a recent food delivery. “I got a message from the customer saying, ‘Just so you know, I am a nudist and WILL be answering the door nude.’ I responded with, ‘Okay, I will be cancelling then.” But @acrispygal99 says she wasn’t able to cancel the order without her completion rate being impacted so she went ahead with it. Here’s what I don’t understand, If you’re a nudist, why wouldn’t you just have the food left at the door.
