The New York Times has a new digital game and I’m already hooked.

First I started playing Wordle, which I loved even before the Times purchased it.

Then, the Times added Connections, where players have to figure out the four appropriate word groupings on the board. And that game can be vexing, but I still love it.

Now, the Times has added a new game called Strands. It’s a word search puzzle of sorts, only you don’t get a list to search for – you have to figure it out on your own. There’s a general clue that links the words together, but that’s all you have to work with.

So basically, you are picking words out of a jumble of letters – and the letters don’t follow traditional word search rules.

It’s a great mental exercise. Sometimes, when I’m trying to write something, I need to shift my perspective and step outside of it for a second. Strands does the trick!
