It's a pretty medieval town situated in the leafy countryside of the wider West Midlands region, boasting a picturesque high street, beautiful countryside and within commuting distance of larger towns and cities. Newport, in the borough of Telford & Wrekin, Shropshire, was described as having 'holiday vibes' all year round - and it's easy to see why.

Independent shops, pubs, ancient and black-and-white timber buildings line Newport's High Street, alongside big brands like Boots and B&M, offering something for everyone. Even on a weekday, the town centre was positively buzzing was shoppers.

But on the surrounding roads getting in to Newport, it didn't feel too busy and congested. Life here felt like it went at a slightly slower pace. Alongside a bustling town centre which also boasts a Waitrose and Aldi (the latter on the outskirts), there's wide areas of greenery surrounding the town, including The Wrekin, a large hill popular for walking and sight-seeing.

There's a number of factors that pull people here. That also includes the quality of schools, with several being rated outstanding.

But despite Newport's leafy settings, it's not too far away from places like Telford (seven miles south) away and Birmingham (35 miles southwest). It also lies inbetween Shrewsbury and Stafford, 20 miles west and 13 miles east respectively.

Unfortunately Newport doesn't have a train station, but is has buses running to Telford, where there is a trainline. And the market town, with a population of 11,387, is a 17 minute's drive from Junctions 4 and 5 of the M54, which connects you to the M6.

The average family home, however, will set you back £403,365 - a rise of 2.7% in 12 months. Residents told BlackCountryLive that housebuilding in Newport was underway, with concerns about the affect it will have on local amenities.

A woman, who worked at a pub in the town, said: "Newport is one of the best towns. I have lived here for seven years, I love it. There is nothing like it. It has a massive high street, it's so wide and looks so pretty. Newport in Bloom has done their job, it looks amazing with all of the flowers out. Newport has got a good community.

She added: "It's growing rapidly as well, there is a lot of housebuilding. For residents, it's like will there be enough schools and doctors? One of the estates has nearly 700 houses. You think if that's the case, with one child per house?"

Danielle Woodhouse, 36, originally from Wolverhampton, told BlackCountryLive: "I moved here a year and a half ago, it's wonderful. I have lived in other places, Manchester, Australia, South Korea - it just feels nice here, it's the people. I've seen lads and kids going out litter-picking, charity groups going out, volunteer groups doing the flowers down the high street. I think that's the main thing, the people keep it nice."

Michelle Walsh, who runs Oh Sew Bluesky alongside Sara Brettle, said: "I live in Codsall, a 25 minute's journey from here. I absolutely love it here. I know my business partner wants to move here.

"The high street is so pretty. And we're so lucky to be by a church. My son said to me, 'mum, it has got that holiday feel here'. The people are super friendly. The journey, it is a pleasure to come to work. I can't knock it, not one thig. Actually, I would say the parking, but you will get that everywhere."
