As Boeing Co. grapples with the mushrooming consequences of a blown-out door panel and loose bolts on its 737 Max 9 model, Chief Executive Officer Dave Calhoun is taking a trip to the headquarters of the company’s most crucial supplier, Spirit AeroSystems Holdings Inc., in Wichita, Kansas. The meeting is about much more than just optics: Some 171 Max 9 jets remain grounded by the Federal Aviation Administration after an auxiliary exit door that was meant to be sealed shut ripped open midair on an Alaska Airlines flight, leaving a gaping hole and sending the aircraft panel down into a science teacher’s backyard. But that doesn’t mean it’s not symbolic.
