Bonds issued by UK companies are beyond the reach of all but the wealthiest individuals — yet retail investors can purchase shares in the same entities without breaking the bank. It's time this illogical anomaly was consigned to history.

Scrapping the minimum denomination for corporate debt, which has been set at £100,000 ($122,000) since 2005, should form part of the Government's ongoing Edinburgh reforms of European Union financial legislation. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak even co-authored a paper on the need for a proper UK retail bond market in 2017.
