Cathay Pacific Airlines Ltd. is beset by delays, faces growing competition from regional and Chinese rivals, and was recently chastised by the local aviation regulator for flaws in its operations. Yet shares in Hong Kong’s flagship carrier are among the few that have climbed over the past six months, outperforming peers. And it may still be undervalued.

This disconnect can be explained by investors being less concerned about news of pilot shortages and poor schedule management, and more focused on what the stock could do for their portfolios.
