Bradley Bytes – A sort of political column by Dara Bradley

One Galway City Councillor lucky to reach the New Year in one piece was former Mayor of Galway, Mike Cubbard.

The Independent City Central rep was involved in a car crash in the city in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

Former Mayor Mike was still “fairly shook” from the incident, which occurred at the junction of Ballybane and Castlepark Road.

Though he told us his back was ‘goosed’ following the collision, both he and the three other occupants of the vehicle escaped without life-threatening or very serious injuries.

The same can’t be said for his car, though. It has gone to the scrap yard and was a complete write-off or ‘mangled’, as Mike described it.

Still, it could have been a lot worse. An investigator told Mike that had the incident occurred three seconds earlier or later, “we’d have been killed stone dead – scary!”.

Scary, indeed.
