The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in New Delhi, on Friday, November 24 officially announced the permanent closure of its embassy, effective from November 23, 2023, citing ongoing challenges from the Indian government.

The Press Release, dated November 24, said, "The decision follows the embassy’s earlier cessation of operations on September 30, a move made in the hope that the Indian government stance will favourably change to let the mission operate normally."

At present, there are no Afghan diplomats in India.

The release clarified the move is not a result of any internal conflict, related to diplomats changing their allegiance to the Taliban, but a result of broader changes in policy and interests".

Expressing gratitude to the Afghan community in India, the embassy said despite "limitations in resources and power" it worked tirelessly for the betterment of the Afghans.
