Fraudsters posing as St John's Ambulance staff - dressed in the first aid charity's green uniform - are going door to door claiming to be fundraising for the charity.

The scammers, described as "pushy" and "persistent", have been spotted in Reepham, as well as the nearby villages of Cawston and Corpusty.

Locals have reported the men to the police and contacted St John's Ambulance, who say they are nothing to do with the charity.

"Just giving everyone the heads up, I’ve just had a St John’s Ambulance man knock on my door saying he is fundraising for the charity," Georgina Key, who lives in Reepham, said in a Facebook post warning people about the scam.

"I have checked with St John’s Ambulance to see if this is legitimate or a scam and they have confirmed it is a scam.

Although the men are said to "look professional", locals who answered their doors and spoke to them said "something didn't seem right".

There are believed to be at least two men involved in the scam, with fears they are preying on vulnerable elderly residents.

Both Norfolk Police and St John's Ambulance have been approached for comment.
