Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS trust has applied to Fenland Council for permission to take down the structure - which housed the site's boiler - at the North Cambs Hospital, in Wisbech.

It said: "The building is no longer required, and an alternative use is proposed for the land."

The trust added the land would be used to provide extra parking at the hospital, on St Augustines Road.

But a planning officer's report describes the application as "scant on detail".

It adds: "Details such as a method statement for demolition by an appropriate demolition contractor, nor any details of the proposed restoration of the site have been submitted.

"Accordingly, further information is required before prior approval can be granted."
