Megan James, 32, from Solihull in the West Midlands, had booked a trip to King's Lynn with her boyfriend.

Due to living with cerebral palsy, Megan had been using her electric wheelchair throughout the stay.

Megan's mother Teresa said she was half way through the break on April 7 when she was hit by an electric bike in King Street.

"She's normally so careful when she's out and about," Theresa said. "She said she checked the road and had just edged out when the bike came along out of nowhere and flew into her."

Teresa said Megan's boyfriend and a number of witnesses came forward and took her to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where she discovered she had broken her ankle.

The electric wheel plates on her chair had also been damaged.

"Her boyfriend thankfully brought her straight home," Teresa said. "She's had three more hospital appointments since then and she was put on bed rest for a while."

Teresa explained the e-bike was being ridden by a man with his face covered.

"The man did apparently stop and ask if she was okay - but then he just carried on and left," Teresa said.

The family and some witnesses said they reported the incident to the police but Teresa wants to make people more aware and start a conversation about safety and consideration.

"I just want to raise some awareness because this could be something that happens again in the town," Teresa added.

"I normally let her get on with it while she's out and about but I'm worried now.

"She's very strong and resilient and we're trying to keep her spirits up but it's affected us."

Norfolk police have been contacted for comment.
