Initially learning about state affairs when her mother became more involved in local politics, Lynn Grove Academy's head girl Ella Thurtle has since endeavoured to introduce better schooling of politics in schools across the country.

Picture - Submitted (Image: Submitted)Writing letters to education secretary Gillian Keegan and Labour’s shadow education secretary Bridget Phillipson, Ella has explained that her Gorleston school is only one of three within the academy trust to offer a politics and law-focused citizenship GCSE.

She argues that more emphasis is needed on these subjects in secondary schools to help better inform younger generations.

"Making sure young people understand our political system is so important. We know there are problems locally and nationally, and knowing how to engage and change things really matters."
