Alfie Hammett, 19, and Joshua Howell, 18, have both been charged with the murder of Raymond James Quigley, from Wymondham, who was stabbed to death in the centre of the Suffolk town last January.

Their trial was told of connections with the murder of Joe Dix, 18, who was stabbed to death on the streets of Norwich, exactly 12 months earlier.

The court heard that both Mr Dix and Hammett were members of Norwich street gang, the Third Side.

During a police search of Hammett's bedroom after he was arrested in connection with Mr Quigley's murder, officers found a copy of the order of service for a memorial for Mr Dix.

There was also a picture of Hammett taken from a phone seized by police which showed the defendant at Vale Green, the street in Mile Cross where Mr Dix was killed and which has since become a memorial site for him.

Mr Quigley was attacked in Ipswich's shopping district on January 17 last year.
He suffered four stab wounds to the torso in the attack before running into a shop, in the town's busy Westgate Street retail area, where he bled to death.

The trial has heard that he was a member of the Norwich street gang On The Money (OTM).

Howell is a member of the IP3 or Nacton gang, from Ipswich, which is associated with the Third Side.

The trial has previously heard that Mr Quigley and Hammett were said to have known each other and prosecutors say the rivalry between the gangs may have led to Mr Quigley's death after he and two friends bumped into the defendants in the town centre.

However, it was also stated there is no evidence that Mr Quigley, Hammett or Howell were involved in the murder of Mr Dix.

Hammett, from Rushmere St Andrew, in Suffolk, and Howell, from Ipswich, are also accused of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

They deny both charges. The case continues.
