Twelve disused garages in Mildenhall are to be turned into 19 affordable rent homes, as well as three large off-street parking areas for residents.

The development is a collaboration between Flagship Homes and contractor EN Suiter, and is being part-funded by Homes England.

West Suffolk Council will be funding accessibility adaptions to some of the new homes.

The homes will be powered by eco-friendly measures like air-source heat pumps and solar panels, and the development will include a mix of one and two-bed bungalows, maisonettes and two, three and four-bedroom houses.

Simon Floor, Flagship Homes project manager, said; “I am very much looking forward to seeing these garage sites transformed into new homes for the local area, as well as what will be a very successful partnership with EN Suiter.

“These homes, and the extra parking, will be a huge improvement to the area that we and everyone involved, including local residents, can’t wait to see.

"We’re also very proud that these homes will be utilising renewable energy technology which will provide significant benefits to our future tenants, and the environment too."

Steven Gould, managing quantity surveyor at EN Suiter, said: "This is our second project with Flagship and we’re thrilled to keep working with them.

"It’s really nice to see this project taking shape, and it’s something we know will make a huge difference to the local community."

“It’s a big project with new homes and parking areas across so many sites and we’re really looking forward to seeing it come together for the people who need it.”

The homes in the town should be finished by summer 2025 and will then be managed by Samphire Homes, one of Flagship Group’s three housing associations.
