Aliaj Erdisol, 37, was found at the wheel by police who stopped an MG car that had been reported as stolen in Luton.

Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told after being pulled over at the BP garage on Mousehold Lane he had been quizzed by officers but had claimed to have no identification.

Prosecutors said he had subsequently given false details because he knew he should not have been driving.

He claimed he had only been driving for 10 minutes after being told by a second person that the car had been hired.

Erdisol, from Sudbury in Suffolk, pleaded guilty to having no licence, no insurance and obstructing a police officer.

Representing himself and speaking through an interpreter he told magistrates he had an Albanian driving licence.

Magistrates said he’d had plenty of time to obtain a UK licence after living in Suffolk for over two years. They fined him £218 and imposed six points.
