The right to protest does not mean anyone can protest about anything, at anytime, anywhere, by any method.

Legal protests pressure for change that serves the interests of the protesters, either for themselves or in their belief it will also benefit society as a whole.

The onus is on the person or persons protesting to read the room of their audience when it comes to their demonstrations, it is not on their audience to read them.

When a country designates an organization as a terrorist entity, it is declaring that allying with that organization may be illegal, depending on one’s activities, and is certainly immoral.

If an organization is on Canada’s list of terrorist entities, then waving their flag or publicly supporting them undermines what, in the view of our duly elected, democratic government, serves the interests of Canada and Canadians.

Here are all 78 terrorist entitles publicly listed by Public Safety Canada (in alphabetical order, names and descriptions are unaltered):

This information is easily verifiable by doing an online search for “Public Safety Canada currently listed entities.”

The site also provides a brief description of each of these entities, information on their terrorist activities and the alternative names of each organization.

If individuals want to involve themselves in a political movement, a protest, or to otherwise rally behind a particular cause, it is the responsibility of those individuals to be aware of the causes and activities they are supporting, particularly in the case of entities Canada has designated as terrorist organizations.

Not doing so, at a bare minimum, is incredibly unwise.
