In the aftermath of the historic abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, Jammu and Kashmir has undergone a transformative journey, transcending from a region marred by turmoil to one that proudly hosts international events like the Legends League Cricket tournament and the G20 meeting. This shift signifies not only a triumph of peace but also the region’s newfound ability to showcase itself on the global stage. We have all witnessed how Kashmir hosted the G20 meeting in May of this year. The gathering not only symbolized the prevailing peace in the region but also set the stage for Kashmir’s burgeoning global tourism. In a remarkable transformation since my childhood, where the solemnity of funeral gatherings and the echoes of stone-pelting once dominated Jammu and Kashmir, the unimaginable has become reality. India proudly hosts the Legends League Cricket tournament in Jammu’s Maulana Azad Stadium, welcoming international players to our beloved region. This milestone is not merely a triumph in sports; it is a testament to the unwavering determination and collective efforts that have shaped “Naya Jammu and Kashmir.”

A Brief Account of Legends League:

Legends League Cricket (LLC) is committed to cricket enthusiasts and stands as a trailblazer in providing a platform where retired cricket players can showcase their skills, interact with fans, and relive the thrill of cricket. The league is devoted to uniting cricket aficionados from various backgrounds to collectively celebrate this exhilarating sport. Legends League Cricket unveiled its global format, LLC Masters, in 2022, with the aim of elevating the standards of cricketing excellence. The inaugural season took place in Muscat, Oman, and the most recent season was hosted in Doha, Qatar. In this format, three teams vie for supremacy, showcasing top-tier talent: the Indian Maharajas, Asia Lions, and World Giants. Reflecting the cricket-crazy culture of the nation, the Indian Maharajas bring together the best talent from India. The Asia Lions represent cricketing powerhouses across Asia, while the team of World Giants comprises a dynamic fusion of international cricketing talent.

The question that arises here is why such events weren’t possible a few years before. Why couldn’t Jammu and Kashmir host international guests earlier? The answer is straightforward and evident – the region lacked peace and was plagued by terrorism and instability for almost four decades. Many are familiar with the India vs West Indies match on October 13, 1983, at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar, which was marred by protests and disruptive activities by sympathizers of terrorist outfits. The pitch was even dug up during the lunch interval. Subsequently, it became impossible for the region to host any international events or guests.

However, as the saying goes, darkness has to end one day. Kashmir witnessed a successful G20 meeting, and now the Jammu region is welcoming international and national players in the Legends League Cricket tournament. It prompts us to explore the reasons why we are now able to host such events, a change that has become apparent only after 2019.
Peace as the Cornerstone:

One of the key factors behind Jammu and Kashmir’s ability to host events like the G20 meeting and the Legends League Cricket lies in the prevailing peace. Post the abrogation, the government has tirelessly worked towards maintaining stability, fostering an environment where citizens can live without the shadow of conflict.
Government’s Commitment to Peace:

The present-day government’s commitment to peace in the region has been unwavering. Initiatives have been taken to address the root causes of unrest, engaging with the local population, and ensuring that their voices are heard. The relentless efforts to build bridges and establish a dialogue have played a pivotal role in creating an atmosphere conducive to such international events.
Global Recognition:

The successful hosting of the G20 meeting and the ongoing Legends League Cricket in Jammu is a testament to the global recognition of the positive transformations in the region. It reflects the confidence of both national and international communities in the newfound stability and security.

Inclusive Development:

Beyond peace, the government has focused on inclusive development, ensuring that the benefits of progress reach every corner of Jammu and Kashmir. Investments in infrastructure, education, and healthcare have been prioritized, creating an environment where events of such magnitude become not only feasible but also successful.

Empowering the Local Community:

A crucial aspect of this transformation has been empowering the local community. By involving them in decision-making processes, the government has fostered a sense of ownership and pride among the people, making them stakeholders in the region’s progress.

In the resounding success of hosting the Legends League Cricket tournament and the G20 meeting, Jammu and Kashmir proudly emerge as symbols of peace and progress post the monumental abrogation of Article 370. The prevailing tranquillity in the region stands as a testament to the transformative power of stability. It is the newfound peace that has paved the way for these grand international events, transforming J&K into a global host. Undoubtedly, credit must be given where it is due, and the tireless efforts of the present government in maintaining law and order deserve commendation. A heartfelt thank you extends to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for their visionary leadership that has steered J&K towards a future of promise and prosperity. As Jammu and Kashmir embraces its role as a destination for significant international gatherings, there’s a palpable sense of hope that the future is secure, guided by the hands that have worked tirelessly to nurture peace and prosperity.
