Senior Congress leader and son of Jammu and Kashmir’s erstwhile Maharaja Hari Singh, Karan Singh, welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court upholding the abrogation of Article 370 and urged everyone to “Accept the inevitable.”

His statement on the same day when the Supreme Court of India upheld the Union Government’s decision to abrogate Article 370 of the constitution, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and said that every decision taken by the Centre on behalf of a State can’t be subject to a legal challenge.

Singh also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to restore statehood and suggested political parties in J-K go ahead with preparations for fighting the next elections and not unnecessarily hit their heads against the wall.

“I welcome it. Now it has become clear that whatever happened is constitutionally valid…I request PM Modi to restore statehood soon,” he said.

“A section of people in J&K who will not be happy with this judgment, my sincere advice is that they should accept the inevitable and they should accept the fact that now this has been done and the Supreme Court has upheld the action and therefore there’s no point now unnecessarily hitting their head against the wall,” he added.

“Now my suggestion is that they should turn their energies towards fighting the next elections. That is where the people should now be motivated instead of developing any negativity,” Karan Singh said further.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the abrogation of Article 370 and said that it is a resounding declaration of hope, progress and unity for our sisters and brothers in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

PM Modi in his post on X said “Today’s Supreme Court verdict on the abrogation of Article 370 is historic and constitutionally upholds the decision taken by the Parliament of India on 5th August 2019; it is a resounding declaration of hope, progress and unity for our sisters and brothers in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. The Court, in its profound wisdom, has fortified the very essence of unity that we, as Indians, hold dear and cherish above all else.”

The PM further assured that the government is committed to the resilient people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh in fulfilling their dreams.

What accept-the-inevitable means:

Accepting the inevitable often refers to acknowledging and coming to terms with aspects of life that are beyond our control. It’s a mindset that suggests embracing reality, even if it includes challenges or outcomes we may not prefer.

Change is a constant in life. Accepting the inevitable means acknowledging that circumstances, relationships, and situations will evolve. Instead of resisting change, try to adapt and find ways to navigate through it.

Understand that there are certain things you cannot control. Trying to control everything can lead to frustration and stress. Focus on what you can influence and let go of the rest.

Let us develop resilience to bounce back from setbacks. Life may present obstacles, but your ability to adapt and persevere can make a significant difference.

Abrogation objectives:

The abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution on August 5, 2019, marked a significant move by the Narendra Modi led Government. Article 370 granted special autonomy to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, allowing it to have its own constitution and decision-making authority, except in matters related to defense, communications, and foreign affairs.

The decision to revoke Article 370 was accompanied by the bifurcation of the state into two separate union territories—Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The abrogation of Article 370 was framed by the government as a measure to address security concerns in J&K. It was argued that the special status had hindered effective counterterrorism efforts, and its removal was aimed at strengthening national security.

One of the primary objectives of abrogating Article 370 was to integrate Jammu and Kashmir more closely with the rest of India. The special status had created a sense of isolation and separatism, and its revocation was seen as a step towards fostering national unity.

Restore democracy:

There have been calls for restoration of democracy since abrogation of 370. There have been concerns about the erosion of democratic principles, the undermining of institutions, or the violation of human rights.

When there is “Accept the Inevitable”, it is high time to ensure that free, fair, and transparent elections are conducted in J&K.

A democratic setup is the need of the hour. The setup refers to a form of government where power is vested in the hands of the people, either directly or through elected representatives. Democracy is often characterized by the principles of political equality, popular sovereignty, and the protection of individual rights.

In a democratic system, the ultimate authority rests with the people. Citizens have the right to participate in decision-making processes, either by directly voting on issues (direct democracy) or by electing representatives to make decisions on their behalf (representative democracy).

Democracies are built on the principle of the rule of law. This means that all individuals, including those in power, are subject to and accountable under the law. The legal system is expected to be transparent, just, and impartial.
