Democrats are not willing to parlay with Republicans to fund border security and modify the asylum system in order to obtain another $61 billion in funding for Ukraine.

In fact, it is a wonderful sign of clarity that both parties agree to the premise J. D. Vance began advancing as he campaigned for the Republican Senate nomination in 2022: that our border is more important than anything happening in Eastern Europe and should be our top priority.

If Republicans and Democrats are both willing to risk not passing additional funding for Ukraine this session over regulations of asylum claimants, than that is a pretty strong sign that all the overheated rhetoric about Ukraine being the lynchpin of the free world order, or that a loss there is a harbinger of advancing tyranny and bloodshed to come, is not believed on Capitol Hill.
