A year ago, I wrote a column registering my deep appreciation for the London Calling podcast, which had evolved into what I thought was the most vital, if most difficult, ongoing conversation in the post-Covid world. James Delingpole had been transformed by the Covid-era from someone narrowly skeptical of political orthodoxies, to an expansive skeptic of politics as an enterprise at all, coming to believe the world was in the hands of a cabal who controlled just about everything. Toby Young remained convinced that politics was meaningful, even if it was often frustrating and led by bumblers.

Since that column, the tension led to a long sabbatical, and now to today’s announcement that the podcast is over:

London Calling has officially come to an end. Sorry.

I’m sorry to see it go and plan to follow both men in whatever they do next.
