On this week’s first edition of The Editors, Noah is in the host’s seat. He and Jim discuss the firefight taking place in the Red Sea, and why the Biden administration seems to be keeping quiet about it.

“Look, one of the reasons the Biden administration didn’t react like they had completely dropped the ball and botched the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan was their confidence that the American people — they were upset about it at the time, [but] they’re going to forget about it,” Jim says of the administration’s expectations back then. That didn’t happen, but he suggests the White House is following the same playbook now.

Jim goes on to fault the administration for failing to follow through on its warnings: “Very early on, before the attack started, we saw statements from the White House podium, I believe Kamala Harris, and the message was, ‘Don’t do it. Don’t you dare.’ Well, they dared. . . . No one was intimidated.”

We currently have military ships defending commercial operations in the Red Sea, and Jim points out, “You fire enough missiles enough directions at a U.S. naval vessel, the chances of having a hit someday are greater than zero. Not terribly likely, not terribly high, but it could happen. You could lose U.S. servicemen’s lives in that.
