New Delhi: All-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed is a popular figure in the Pakistan dressing room. The Pakistan players are often spotted pulling his leg despite him being one of the senior figures in the dressing room and refer to him as ‘chacha’ which translates to uncle. A hard-hitting batter, Iftikhar is known for his big hits on the field but is a fun character off it.

A vital cog in the Pakistan batting line-up in the shortest format, Iftikhar is expected to play a key role for the Men in Green in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Recently during an interaction with reporters in Pakistan, the all-rounder came up with a hilarious response to a question and made a light-hearted request. Iftikhar asked the reporter to not call him ‘chacha’, stating that he is still young.

“Mai chacha nahi hu, young ladka hu (I am not an uncle, I am a young boy,” Iftikhar told the reporter, leaving others in splits.

Iftikhar was not in great form during Pakistan’s recently concluded T20I series against a second-string New Zealand side. The all-rounder managed 31 runs in four innings and picked up only one wicket as the hosts drew the series 2-2. Iftikhar will hope for a turnaround when Pakistan take on England in a 4-match T20I series starting on May 22 ahead of the all-important 2024 T20 World Cup.

Pakistan will tour England for a four-match T20I series later this month as they aim to leave no stone unturned in preparing for the T20 World Cup 2024. The four-match series will get underway with the opening game in Headingley followed by Edgbaston, Cardiff and the last game at The Oval. Both Pakistan and England will start the T20 World Cup 2024 as one of the favourites and will look to go the distance in the tournament.
