New Delhi: The Klopp era is set to come to an end at Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp will be leaving the club at the end of the ongoing season. Klopp will leave with a lasting legacy at Anfield as he transformed Liverpool under his reign. From a club struggling to finish in the top four in the Premier League, Klopp revitalised the team and rejigged the ethos of the entire club to bring them back among Europe’s elites.

Liverpool won a sixth Champions League title under Klopp in 2018-19 before enjoying a fairytale run to a memorable Premier League triumph in the 2019-20 season. Liverpool won their first and only Premier League crown under Klopp after amassing a club-record 99 points throughout the season. As the German gears up to bid adieu, Liverpool have already identified his successor and agreed a deal for his appointment at the end of the season.

Dutch Arne Slot is set to become the new manager of Liverpool and take over the reins from Klopp once he leaves the club. Liverpool have agreed a £9.4m deal for Slot with his current club Feyenoord ahead of his official appointment. The appointment is subject to Slot agreeing a contract with the Premier League giants. Slot led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title last season while the club have won the Dutch Cup under him this season.

Feyenoord are currently 2nd in the Eredivisie with 75 points after 31 matches and are set to miss out on the title this season, finishing behind table toppers PSV Eindhoven. Slot has reportedly managed to impress those in charge at Liverpool with his attacking style of play and his ability to develop young players. Klopp too had good words to say about the man, who is set to be his replacement at the club.

“I like the way his team play football. All the things I hear about him as a guy say he’s a good guy. I like that a lot – good guy, good coach and looking forward for the club if he is the solution. I’m more than happy, it sounds all really good,” Klopp said about Slot.

Arne Slot is a former footballer and a Dutch football manager, who began his managerial career as a youth coach at the Dutch club PEC Zwolle before becoming the assistant manager of SC Cambuur. He joined AZ Alkmaar next and became their manager in 2019. In his first season at Alkmaar, they played exceptionally well and were level on points with league leaders Ajax before the season was halted due to COVID-19.

Slot spent only one season at Alkmaar before joining Feyenoord as their manager in 2021. He won his first league title with the club in his second year in charge and also led them to the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2021-22.

Slot was a midfielder during his playing days and played for several clubs in the Eredivisie. He began his career with FC Zwolle, making more than 100 appearances for the club before joining NAC Breda where he played 142 matches. The former midfielder also played for Sparta Rotterdam and won two Eredivisie titles as a player.
