New Delhi: Ever since Virat Kohli lashed out at all the critics who questioned him for his poor strike rate and his “slow” approach in a T20 game, it hasn’t gone down well with India’s legendary Sunil Gavaskar, also one of the commentators in the panel of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 broadcasters. Kohli in a recent post-match presentation had his take on all the cricket pundits who criticised him for the slow pace with which he is batting in the ongoing IPL season.

Gavaskar didn’t shy away from giving a reply to Kohli as he launched a scathing attack supposedly meant for the star batter and didn’t even spare the host broadcasters. The die-hard Kohli fans have been critical of Gavaskar for his ranting while it is undoubtedly clear that the contribution of Gavaskar to Indian cricket has been phenomenal. The legendary batter is regarded as one of India’s finest taking on the lethal bowlers of the 70s and 80s.

However, there are a few Gavaskar innings that some feel were a great example of sheer patience and wearing the opposition down but some have contrary thoughts about them. One such innings was Gavaskar scoring 36 runs off 174 balls in the 1975 World Cup match against England. A video snippet of Gavaskar’s interview after the match has recently surfaced on social media where he is talking about his innings and “seemingly” shifting the blame toward bowlers for conceding too many runs.

Kohli’s supporters found that Gavaskar isn’t holding himself accountable for his abysmal strike rate of 20.68 and is rather blaming the bowlers for leaking too many runs. This innings of Gavaskar stands on the face of his remarks over Virat Kohli for his lower strike rate.

After 36 runs off 174 balls, Sunil Gavaskar remarked, “It might seem like I’m slow, but that could be because our bowlers have given away too many runs.”

– Legend saab, you were slow…and it’s a fact!!

Sunil Gavaskar was not slow when he scored 36 in 174 balls while chasing 300 runs. According to him Indian bowlers given to many runs.

The shortest Buddha of Indian Cricket Sir Sunil Gavaskar wasn’t ready to accept the fact that he played slow instead he shifted the blame towards the bowlers inorder to justify his 36* (176). Shame on you
