New Delhi: It was the first doubleheader day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 that began with a battle between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Chandigarh and concluded with the thrilling encounter between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Kolkata. PBKS thrashed DC by four wickets to start the campaign on a high and KKR managed a narrow win by four runs against SRH.

In the first fixture, PBKS opted to bowl first and their bowlers leaked too many runs specially in the final moments to let Delhi post 174/9. PBKS turned to bat and on the back of Sam Curran (63 off 47), chased down the target with four balls to spare. The IPL showcased its potential in the third game itself when Andre Russell headlined KKR’s 208/7 with seven towering sixes, smashing 64 runs off just 25 balls. SRH responded with 204/7 as Heinrich Klaasen fell a bit short with his 63-run knock, dealing just in sixes (8), and almost made it look like SRH had the game in their kitty.
