New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) getting off the mark as they clinched a four-wicket victory against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday. It was totally a Virat Kohli show until Dinesh Karthik stole the limelight from him to guide the home side to their maiden victory of the season.

Punjab Kings were invited to bat first and skipper Shikhar Dhawan top-scored with 45 runs with a decent contribution from the middle order. They were halted at 176/6 after completing 20 overs. RCB were off to a flyer during the chase as opener Virat Kohli (Player of the Match) blasted 77 runs with some classy shots to make a case for the T20 World Cup 2024. Although he left the business unfinished, it was Dinesh Karthik along with Mahipal Lomror at the end to take the team home.

Run machine Virat Kohli was handed the orange cap at the presentation after his 77-run knock against PBKS. He has scored 98 runs in the two games played at a strike rate of 142.02. PBKS’ Sam Curran jumps to second spot with 86 runs at a strike rate of 134.37. RR’s Sanju Samson slips to the third spot having 82 runs at an impressive strike rate of 157.69. Punjab skipper Shikhar Dhawan climbs to the fourth spot with 67 runs and a strike rate of 126.41. RCB’s Dinesh Karthik (66) is just a run behind, sitting fifth with a soaring strike rate of 183.33

There’s no change with the top spot as CSK’s Mustafizur Rahman has it occupied with his four-wicket haul (Eco 7.25). MI’s Jasprit Bumrah (2nd) entered the list as he bagged three wickets against GT at an economy of 3.50. PBKS’ bowling duo – Harpreet Brar (3 wickets; 3.85 economy) and Kagiso Rabada (3 wickets; 7.37 economy) are the new entrants being third and fourth respectively. SRH’s T Nataran slips to the fifth spot with three wickets at an economy of 8.
