New Delhi: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cricket operations Chairperson Jalal Yunus has defended the decision to summon Mustafizur Rahman back from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. BCB has communicated with IPL and his franchise CSK that he needs to return to Bangladesh to fulfill his commitments with the national side for the T20I series against Zimbabwe, starting from May 3.

Mustafizur has been the leading wicket-taker for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing IPL, he has taken 10 wickets in 5 matches so far. Earlier this week, BCB provided Mustafizur with an extended No-objection Certificate, permitting him to continue his tenure with CSK in the IPL 2024. The extension enabled Mustafizur to take part in CSK’s match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 1, extending his availability for the franchise from April 30.

Jalal said Mustafizur will not benefit from the IPL and has nothing to learn “Mustafizur has nothing to learn from playing in the IPL. Mustafizur’s learning process is over. Rather, there are many players in IPL who can learn from him. Bangladesh will not benefit from this”.

He also said that CSK is not concerned about his fitness and they will take 100 per cent from him “Our concern is Mustafizur’s fitness. They want to take 100 per cent from him. They don’t have a headache about his fitness, but we do. The reason we are bringing back Mustafizur is not just to play in the Zimbabwe series, but if he is brought here, we will plan him with the workload. But that plan won’t happen if he’s in IPL”. as quoted by Daily Star.

Ruturaj Gaikwad-led CSK will take on Lucknow Super Giants in the 34th match of the IPL at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on April 19. CSK won their last two matches and is currently placed 3rd in the IPL points table. LSG on the other hand, have lost their last two matches and are on 5th spot in the IPL 2024 points table.
