New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders put one foot into the play-offs of IPL 2024 with a comprehensive 98-run win over Lucknow Super Giants after posting a record score away at the Ekana Stadium.

Their star West Indian all-rounder continued his hot form in the tournament with an 81-run knock that lifted KKR to 235/6, the highest score at the venue, the first time any team had crossed the 200-run mark at Ekana.

LSG had won the toss and opted to field with the intention of restricting KKR to a low score. But neither were they able to do that nor they could match KKR’s hitting prowess as they got skittled out for 137 in 16/1 overs.

Only Marcus Stoinis, though his 21-ball 36 showed glimpses of matching the brute hitting power that KKR displayed as KKR kept picking up wickets to snuff out any remoe chance that LSG had of reaching anywhere near their target.

For KKR, Harshit Rana (3/24), Varun Chakaravarthy (3/30) and Andre Russell (2/17) were among wickets as they reached 16 points with eight wins in 11 matches to leapfrog Rajasthan Royals on net run rate and go on top.

LSG dropped a place to fifth with their fifth loss in 11 matches.

Earlier, KKR batters had a field day as they posted the highest score of 235 for six at the Ekana Stadium. It is the highest score at this venue, bettering
LSG’s 199 for eight earlier in this season against Punjab Kings.

In fact it was the first time any team could reach 200 and beyond with the previous best by a visting team at the venue being 199 for three by Rajasthan Royals.

Sunil Narine led the carnage with a knock of 81 off 38 balls, smashing seven sixes and six fours. He and his opening partners Philip Salt (32 off 14, 5×4, 1×6) put on a 61-run stand that gave them momentum after LSG won the toss and invited KKR to beat.

Naveen-ul Haq dismissed Salt as KKR reached 70/1 in the powerplay overs but Narine remained unperturbed as he reached his fifty off 27 deliveries and then launched Marcus Stoinis for three times in the 11th over.

Ravi Bishnoi stoppd him but not after he was dropped twice of his bowling. Narine crossed 1,500 IPL runs has over 450 runs in IPL 2024.

After Narine’s departure in the 12th over, LSG bowlers struck at regular intervals to peg back KKR.

But Angkrish Raghuvanshi (32) and Shreyas Iyer (25) consolidated and passed on the baton to Ramandeep Singh, whose unbeaten 25 off six balls propelled KKR to the record score.

It was KKR’s sixth score of over 200 runs in this edition of the tournament. They equalled Mumbai Indians’ haul in 2023 to hot ost 200 plus scores in a single season.

Kolkata Knight Riders: 235 for 6 in 20 overs (Sunil Narine 81; Naveen-Ul-Haq 3/49). LSG 137 all out in 16.1 overs (Marcus Stoinis 36; Harshit Rana 3/24, Varun Chakaravarthy 3/30).
