New Delhi: It’s been a season to forget for Mumbai Indians. With just three wins and eight losses in 11 matches, MI sit at the bottom of the table and are on the brink of becoming the first team to be eliminated from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoffs race. The five-time champions never really got going this season.

After suffering four successive defeats, it seemed Mumbai had turned the corner with three wins in four games. But the 9-run triumph against Punjab Kings on April 18 was the last time they tasted victory. Since the home win against PBKS, MI have lost four games on the bounce and face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their penultimate home match of this season.

Anything but a win tonight would end MI’s playoff hopes. Even winning the remaining three matches won’t be enough for the five-time champions, who have struggled under the leadership of new skipper Hardik Pandya.

But three wins would take them to 12 points and though their chances of progressing will remain very complicated, they will still have a slim chance of sealing a playoff berth.

Even if all of the above happens, the situation will then come down to the Net Run Rate to decide the fourth playoff place with a 12-point tie with KKR, RR and the winner of the match between SRH and LSG taking the top three spots.
