ISLAMABAD – No respite for inflation-hit people as the new government has decided to increase the petroleum levy on petrol and diesel from next month on the demands of International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Sources familiar with the development said the Pakistani government is likely to increase petrol prices from April 1, 2024.

Sources familiar with development claimed that there is a strong prospect of another surge in the price of petrol.

As per the unofficial reports, petrol price will see a hike of Rs9.50, and new rate will be around Rs289 for the first half of next month.

The global lender told Pakistani authorities to end sales tax relaxation on petrol and other POLs.

Amid the ongoing negotiations, Sharif’s government has also been told to implement sales tax on petroleum products while record levy of Rs60 remains on all petroleum products.
