ISLAMABAD – Rain-wind/thunderstorms, isolated hailstorms and snowfall over the hills are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Sunday evening/night, Monday and Tuesday, says the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

As per the synoptic situation, a westerly wave will likely enter Balochistan on Sunday night. It will likely grip the upper parts of Pakistan on Monday.

Under these conditions, rain-wind/thunderstorms with few heavy falls, isolated hailstorms and snowfall over the hills are likely in the twin cities, Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Photohar region, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas on Sunday evening/night and the next two days.

Snowfall may cause the closure of roads in north Balochistan. Heavy falls may cause flash flooding in local nullahs/streams in Gwadar, Ketch, Panjgur and Awaran districts on Monday. Snowfall may disrupt traffic in Murree, Galyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch and Haveli on Monday evening/night and Tuesday. Wind thunderstorms may damage loose structures like electric poles and solar panels.

Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 03-05 degrees Celsius on Monday and 04-06 C on Tuesday.

Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 06-08 C on Monday and 07-09 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts of Pakistan during the last 24 hours. Partly cloudy and freezing weather prevailed in northern parts of the country. Malam Jabba received 05 mm of rain and 02 inches of snowfall.

Leh remained the coldest place in the country where the temperature dropped 14 C below freezing.

In Islamabad, minimum temperature was recorded at 03 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 79 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, minimum temperature was recorded at 06 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 58 per cent.
