KARACHI – Inflation hit Pakistanis may get no relief in the next fortnight review of petrol and diesel prices, sources familiar with the development revealed.

As we are moving to 2024, the interim setup has decided to keep petrol prices unchanged amid ‘no room for price reduction’.

As per the reports, the price of petrol and kerosene will be slashed by Rs1 per litre and diesel and light diesel will be increased by Rs1.50-Rs2 per litre for the first half of January 2024.

The decision comes in light of a slight surge in the prices of Brent in the international prices. In early December, global oil price moves down but later it remains below the USD80 mark.

The federal government will announce the new petroleum prices on December 31, 2023. As of now, the Rs60 levy is being charged on each litre of petrol.

In the previous fortnight review, the government lowered petrol price by Rs14 per litre and diesel by Rs13.5.

As of late December, petrol is being sold at Rs267.34 per litre and diesel at Rs276.21 per litre.
