World Happiness Report 2024 has been unveiled and Finland retained the top spot for the seventh consecutive time to become the world’s happiest country.

The annual UN World Happiness Report was released on Wednesday, showing Nordic nations dominate the top rankings as Finland is followed by Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden on second, third and fourth places.

Pakistan ranked 108, the same as last year, in the happiness index. It shows that economic and political crisis witnessed by the South Asian country in 2023 did not have significant impact on happiness level of Pakistanis.

Out of the 143 countries surveyed by the UN body, Afghanistan remained the least happy country as it is facing humanitarian crises since the Taliban took over the government in 2020.

However, the United States and Germany witnessed decline in their rankings as they dropped below the top 20 happiest nations to secured the 23rd and 24th positions respectively.

Costa Rica and Kuwait have made it to the top 20 happiest countries, claiming the 12th and 13th spots.

The ranking of happiness is determined by individuals’ self-assessed evaluations of life satisfaction, along with factors such as GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and corruption.
