LAHORE – Pakistan Railways has achieved a key milestone as it has run longest freight train of its history, said a spokesperson on Friday.

The train is 2,500 feet long and consists of 50 wagons, which were operated using a very powerful engine.

The railways spokesperson said the freight train loaded with over 3000 tons of cargo was taken from Karachi to Kotri.

During this journey, the train reached a speed of 60 kilometers per hour, while the average speed of the train remained 38 kilometers per hour.

According to the railway spokesperson, this train has the capability to carry a weight more than 94 22-wheeler trucks.

The freight train will not only alleviate traffic pressure on the roads but also reduce environmental pollution, the spokesperson said.
