LAHORE – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Usman Anwar has rubbishing reports of closing educational institutions over security concerns.

The Punjab Police chief categorically stated that there was no any security threat and no directives had been issued to close schools, colleges and universities.

“It is fake news and citizens should not pay heed to it,” the IGP Punjab said while vowing to take action against those involved in spreading such false information.

His statement came after an unverified notification circulating on social media claimed that all public and private educational institutions will remain closed in Lahore and other cities for four days (Jan 25-28) due to security concerns.

The viral notification stated that all schools, colleges and universities will remain closed across the province from January 25 to 28 due to security threats.

Earlier this month, several universities were closed in Islamabad due to security concerns. Bahria, Air and Defence universities were shut down by the administration.

However, Islamabad Police chief Dr Akbar Nasir Khan clarified that situation in the capital city was firmly under control.
