DUBAI – United Arab Emirates saw the highest recorded rainfall on Tuesday, as all previous records were shattered, and the record downpour also disrupted flight operations.

National Center of Meteorology confirmed that the record-breaking rainfall that fell on the country within 24 hours, is an exceptional event in the climatic history of the UAE, with more rain expected in the coming hours.

Due to heavy rains, Emirates and other airlines suspended check-in for all Dubai passengers until midnight on Wednesday. Access to Dubai Airport, the world’s busiest air hub, is severely restricted due to flooding.

Dubai International Airport also advised travelers not to go to the airport unless absolutely necessary.

Flydubai is also urging passengers to confirm their flight status before heading to Dubai International Airport. Flydubai has extended its flight cancellation policy and resumed partial operations on Wednesday, with more flights expected to resume from Terminal 2 at 8 pm and from Terminal 3 after midnight.
