The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton campaign continues to roll on and many larger employee campaigns are starting to wrap up.

United Way has now reached 63 per cent of its $1.4-million goal.

“I’m pleased to say that we are approaching $883,000, with just four weeks remaining in the drive,” said Vicky Ducharme, who chairs the 2023 United Way campaign.

“We are still outpacing last year at this time, and we’re hopeful that that trend will continue,” she said.

INEOS Styrolution is the most recent industrial employee fundraising campaign to wrap up, joining Reliance Home Comfort, Enbridge Gas and Enbridge Pipeline, TransAlta, and Pembina Pipeline.

Imperial has officially wrapped up its employee campaign, Ducharme said, and the United Way is awaiting final figures.

“Indications show the employee campaign at Imperial, like some others, has reached and surpassed their 2022 levels,” she added. “Most of the Imperial employee figures are already included in the campaign. Imperial Annuitants will continue to donate until the end of the year,” she added.

Nova Chemicals’ campaign will close at the end of November, along with Arlanxeo. Both companies match employee and retiree donations.

Other than retiree totals, no Nova employee donations and company match are included in the campaign total, Ducharme said, so when they wrap up and their totals are submitted, there will be some quick upward movement on the United Way fundraising thermometer.

The same will happen when Arlanxeo employee totals are announced in the first week or so in December, she said

Lambton College kicked off its employee pledge drive this week. They also have been running United Way fundraisers most of the spring and summer, raising money for the United Way campaign.

“The direct mail campaign is continuing to produce results, and we expect it will continue right up until December 31 as in previous years,” Ducharme said. In fact, many donations are traditionally donated to charities likes the United Way in the final week or hours of the year.

Currently, 18 United Way-funded agencies provide almost 30 programs and services in Sarnia and Lambton County, including New Beginnings, ABI, and Stoke Recovery, which recently held a spaghetti fundraiser for the United Way.

New Beginnings offers several programs and services to area residents who have had a stroke or brain injury and their families. New Beginnings has measurable results in assisting stroke survivors to regain more of their former mobility and independence.
