Library branch transformed into temporary art gallery during April 11 to April 25 showcase

The West Lorne Library is currently hosting an art exhibit showcasing the stunning work of local artists.

Visitors to the West Lorne Community Art Show will enjoy some fantastic local art while the library is open. I visited the open house and was thrilled, as were all present, to view live demonstrations, as art was created right in front of us! Refreshments were available, and guests were provided with the opportunity to create their own works of art. These are the wonders that provided a feast for my eyes as I strolled the “aisles” of this temporary art gallery.

Atop all of the library’s book shelves were dozens of paintings, drawings, sculptures and other works, some presented on easels while others adorned the walls and special display stands. In the southern room, local artists Douglas Walker and Christine Johnson were painting while discussing what they were doing with each other and the visitors. The library glowed and reverberated with the vibrant and muted colours and textures of the creations on exhibition. I was able to view works by many other artists. Gayle Collins was on site, and a couple of folks showed great interest in purchasing some of their favourites!

A group of teens was there to assist, support and to view the awesome images, and were quite friendly and agreeable. Much to my surprise, they were inspired by the experience and the energy that they both brought and absorbed, so created their own sketches of one another. I asked for their thoughts and reactions to the wonderful world of art, and these are a few of their responses: “Art is love. Art is the beauty of the soul within. Art is an expression of your inner world and peace.

“Art is present; art is past.

“Art is a truly magnificent form of expressionism, a way for people all over the world to express emotions and feelings. Art is such an amazing part of life. I enjoy creating art to show my feelings and capture moments of joy into a still picture. I couldn’t imagine a world without art; it’s really a beautiful piece of media. All the talented artists at the library open house should be proud of their art.”

Teagan: Art is “LAAA LAAA LAAA”

All of these reactions and beliefs are truly inspiring and thoughtful (even Teagan!) and created a true sense of joy, as these young spirits feel and appreciate the creative process, and the role which art in all its forms can play, enriching our lives with beauty and depth.

For most of my readers, this article will appear too late for you to see the show, but enjoy my photos, those on display on the library website, and be sure to attend the next pop-up art occasion in a village near you.

Thanks to all of the articles, teens, guests, the Elgin County and West Lorne libraries, and to the Optimist Club who sponsored the gallery, as well as the West Elgin Community Centre, whose personnel and volunteers assisted in so many ways.
